About Mike

Justice of the Peace – Precinct 2 Candidate, Mike McCandless is a dedicated conservative Christian man. Mike has been a Collin County resident since 1996 and is committed to the long-term success and integrity of our community, and in particular, the Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Court, individually and as a component of Collin County, Texas.

Those who know Mike McCandless agree he is a committed father, a devoted husband to his bride of 24 years, Michelle, father of an 19-year-old daughter, Taylor, who is the current National American Miss Texas Teen 1st Runner-Up and who is attending college in Austin, as well as his amazing engineer-minded 15-year old son, Brandon, who is a High School Freshman. Mike is also a successful businessman, a faithful friend, and a dedicated community volunteer. Mike is ready, willing and able to make many tough, smart decisions all day long using his conservative values, his common sense, a solid pursuit of justice and liberty, and guidance in truth.

Justice of the Peace Court is in need of someone who will bring accountability, accessibility, and reliability based on sound lawful decisions. Mike has 7 years’ experience as a Firefighter and 17 years of Law Enforcement, with 12 of those years as a Collin County Deputy Constable, and as part of his duties (both as a Full-time & a Reserve) he has been assigned to Bailiff Court for three of the Collin County Justices of the Peace(Judge John Payton, Judge Johnny Lewis, and Judge Paul Raleeh.) The Precinct 2 JP Court in Farmersville is a particularly busy court, consistently handling civil lawsuits, in addition to civil cases. JP2 Court also handles failure to attend, eviction lawsuits, TXDPS license suspension and revocation hearings, and a plethora of other types of cases.

The job as our JP requires the ability to fairly, respectfully and objectively decide and resolve many disputes each month. It also requires the skill and motivation to effectively manage a fast-paced court docket, the background and community experience to communicate with all sectors of our society, and the desire and integrity to successfully represent and serve the citizens of Collin County, and through Mike’s past and current experience, is what makes Mike best qualified to handle this role.

Mike McCandless was raised in a Locksmith family by two amazing parents with strong family values, who were also business owners themselves. Besides his time as a Firefighter and Law Enforcement Officer and after earning his stripes in the business world as a Certified Master Locksmith and a Radio Personality, Mike McCandless felt a calling to serve the public by putting himself through the Firefighter Academy, Law Enforcement Academy, EMT School, Paramedic School, Arson Investigation School and Fire Prevention Clown School.

Mike went on to work as a Firefighter, EMT-Paramedic, Emergency Room Paramedic Tech, a Collin County Reserve Deputy Fire Marshal, a Police Officer, a Collin County Deputy Constable, serving Civil Process, serving Warrants and Bailiffing Court (Full-Time & Reserve), and was the Founder of the Wylie Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Clown Program.

Mike is most proud of his success in marriage as well as a father and role model to his kids. While Mike and his wife, Michelle are so blessed to have two wonderful and amazing children, who over the years have kept the family household outgoing and energized. Mike has been known to say to his kids, “Be a leader, not a follower, unless you are following GOD.”  This requires “God’s Word, a Strong Foundation” and a lot of love.
